So for a while I actually figured that the reversal of the mid 00's to early 10's zeitgeist, of a very militant atheism, with a hyperfocus on arguing effectively according to the tenets of philosophical logic, and accomodating natural science in one's ontology and metaphysics, would be a good thing.
While the miltant atheism did have some good aspects, namely in that it was intellectually stringent and honest in the beginning, and did have a focus on those two aforementioned aspects of ontology/metaphysics and logical argument, it did not take long for it to reject the philosophical ground that gave birth to it, and adhere to a completely unreflected scientism - hence why I thought the reversal might be a good thing. Much can be said about the theist side of that first round of debates, but one thing that was for sure was that they had a keen understanding of philosophy, many of them being schooled in a classically Coplestonian way, with a fairheaded approach to differing worldviews. I was hoping this would win out with the death of internet atheism and the rise of internet theism.
It didn't. What we have instead now are people who are just as emptily posturing and just as belligerent as the most autistic and annoying atheist posters of the late 00's, just in favor of the opposite, case in point >>21657768 - if the thread gets many more replies, I am sure we will see many clones of this general attitude.
Looking at it from the outside, it seems that there is a constant at play - it was never about the ideas, or about intellectual honesty or curiosity. Both the atheists of the 00's and the theists of today are the exact same people - victims of modernity desperately trying to find some identity. Back then it was atheists. Today it is theism. Both are taken up with all of the convert's zeal, but none of his earnestness.
From this, of course, follows the second constant at play, which was also the case twenty years ago - internet discussions about theism vs. atheism are fucking gay and pointless and the most extreme cringe one can subject oneself to.

Not quite. They didn't have sexuality in that one prefers men or women. Their sexuality was based on dominant person and submissive person, regardless of sex. So while if you were a fag that got fucked, ie., you were in a submissive position, you might suffer from the things you mentioned. Whereas if you fucked men/boys, you would have no issue, since you were being in a dominant position.
