It's a good work. Sad. Pretty gritty and real. You'll wish you hadn't read it after you do. You'll also probably be a bit more empathetic.

I've also read the book. Did ya know it was originally a short story? A very, very good short story that won a couple huge awards in the science fiction field.

i only know the short story, which was quite awesome, is the novel worth reading if you know the short story?

I read it anon, I liked it but I don't remember how it ended :-/

could you tell me?

I liked the short story more than the novel. The novel has some added depth, I guess, but most of it feels unnecessary. I did really like one scene where Charlie (with high intelligence) visits a home for mentally impaired adults. I wouldn't say it's in any way a bad book, but the short story is comparatively pure and unadulterated .

I actually finished reading Flowers for Algernon today. Not a masterpiece, but it was very good.

>> No.2167116

Anyone remember the episode of Rugrats that had total Flowers for Algernon vibes? Something about Chucky going to see a specialist for his nose or sinuses or something.

>> No.2167118

I really enjoyed this book. Read it multiple times.

I thought it was pretty insightful... Almost reflective of the maturity from child to adult. The less we understand of the world and others, the happier we are with everything and ourselves. Yet we are totally at the mercy of others, and insignificant. Which way is more beneficial to ourselves in the end?
