Looking for books similar to Norwegian Wood by Murakami. A comfy, descriptive, slice-of-life kind of book I can live vicariously through.

Independent People by Halldor Laxness. It's about an Icelandic shepherd and his daughter, modernization, small village life, etc. Much slower pace than Norwegian Wood but comfy to the max.

Read Kokoro, Sound of Waves, and Norwegian Wood consecutively in December. They were all incredibly comfy in their own way, with Sound of Waves being the most positive and smile-inducing. Norwegian Wood had many beautiful moment. Are any other Murakami novels like Kafka on the Shore as enjoyable? I'm not that into magic realism, as I've heard that's a common theme in his other books.

I have been meaning to read this for a year, it sounds a lot like Growth of the Soil.
