Just started reading it and it kind of just seems like a run of the mill drama book in an academic setting with classicism as an aesthetic, probably decently enjoyable but shallow.
Seems like pretentious booktubers too retarded to enjoy actual literature would love it

How does when it was written change my assessment of who would enjoy it, retard?
I didn’t say “I bet Donna taart wrote this specifically to appeal to booktubers”, I said “it seems like booktubers would love it”, and your seething response indicates that I’m probably correct. I don’t dislike the book so far though, it’s just not that interesting to me

For the reason it seems like they’d enjoy this book, I guess more generally the person I’m talking about needn’t be a booktuber, more like “mediocre person (probably a woman) majoring in English lit but hates reading famous (actually good) literature”

this would be a lot better as a well made movie or mini series

everytime i see /lit/ mentioning the secret history its always a useless thread like this asking if "it's good".
yes, it is good, of course it might not be your cup of tea, it takes about 300ish pages for the story to actually start picking up and get ready to have the tiniest thing have a 4 page detailed description, i know telling it like this it might sound boring as hell but it wasnt boring for me, you'll get it once you read it.

the first half is by far the best part of the novel

If you're asking this, you'd be better served reading Ellis' Rules of Attraction. It doesn't do anything that isn't more efficiently conveyed by RoA. Is it a decent read? Sure, in that 'maximalist' way.
