Why do people say reading books makes you smarter? That doesn't even make logical sense.

and no your philosophy books or your religious scriptures doesn't count

Reading has no bearing on intelligence at all. Reading philosophy makes you better at discussing academic philosophy. Reading literature makes you better at discussing literature. It's like thinking watching movies or anime will make you more intelligent

nigger the thread is about increasing intelligence through books and you dont expect someone to bring up the best metric of judging intelligence? not saying that IQ is anything other than a measure of how well you would work in an office, but its better than nothing.

Reading increased vocabulary and our ability to express ourselves is done so through primarily language. To not be regularly reading especially today in an age of instantaneous information is to limit your ability to express. Perception is reality and those who can articulate their feelings into verbal form have power over those who cannot. We as humans desire to express and again those who do not regularly read are limiting their ability to express.

The knowledge you obtain from books is only valuable if you can practically apply it. It's why there are tons of nerds that know lots og subjects but can't tell you anything beyond a basic understand. It's why I don't care if someone says they read really quick or has read a lot of books in a short period of time. Full understanding is much more important than reading books for for semblance of increasing knowledge.

It doesn't increase IQ it just increases your grasps on certain concepts. Want to learn about business? Read a stock market and money management book. Want to enjoy surreal concepts? Read a fantasy or science horror novel. Want to stop coming on 4chan? Get a self help book and possibly a firearms manual.

More product = more ideology.
If they read to be smart, they’d just read at the library or at Project Gutenberg.
