In what order should I read him?

Aside from Hour of the Dragon, they were written to work as stand-alone episodes from Conan's life, so literally any order is fine.

The Del Ray editions publish them in the order they were written, along with unfinished drafts in appendices, which is interesting to see how R.E. Howard developed the character.

The single-volume Complete Chronicles has them in publication order, which is cool to see the order that readers first encountered.

And there are several attempts at an internal chronology, but none is perfect because there are obvious gaps not coveres by the stories. Dale Rippke's order is possibly the most consistent and is used for the newer Dark Horse comics series.

this is an unrelated post but i have a picture of young arnie in every room
i quit my job so i can lift and run every day
my life basically fell apart, what im doing is not financially sustainable, i have no social life either, i might end up homeless but i have devised even a homeless workout plan where i would lift my back pack

i dont even know how i got here, i tried everything else in life and failed miserably, pursuit of gains is the only thing keeping me alive now, i am fatally unfit for normie society, i was a 'i fucking love science' type of guy excited about space stuff but after failing my physics degree and living in a 3rd world shithole i realize i will never touch anything space related in my life, never own real estate and never start a family, maybe it is time to get /out/ and just live my days gracefully until a pack of wolves or a bear put me out of my misery once and for all for i dont feel alive when im not working out anyway

I'm currently reading the Del Ray editions because some anon recommend me that one sometimes ago. At first I thought it was in chronological order, but no, some first story is about King Conan which chronologically should be in the end or something. Nonetheless the stories are kinoes! And it's true that I can read it in any order. Thank you for the insight.

Yeah, order of writing or of publication make the most sense because Howard never provided a definitive chronology himself. I think he said he imagined the stories as Conan recounting assorted episodes from his life,

I own the single volume Complete Chronicles of Conan and it’s awesome. Every story in publication order with illustrations.My only complaint about its presentation is the Stephen King quote on the back, which is a backhanded compliment towards REH and should not have been included.

Think I have that same edition and it's a fucking slap in the face.

King would give a quote for a box of cereal if they paid him enough. His word on quality only slightly better than seeing a quote from The Daily Mail.

I'd add that it is a good idea to avoid anything by any other writer. I just finished R.E.H's audiobooks and am starved of content, but Robert Jordan's books are fucking boring, excessively long and he changes the character to be more "moral". If I see that Hordo character again I'm just droppign the book.

All those forests have owners, who are not too keen on some schizo living on their land and felling their money crop. Up north it's even colder, and there are no trees.
