How old are you?

They are pretty much teen books. If you want to move onto something a bit more 'grown up', Douglas Adams is akin to Pratchett in terms of humour.

Karen Miller, Maria Snyder, Kate Elliot are similar to Trudi Canavan, with Snyder being the best of the 3.

If you want more straight fiction, I would suggest some of the classics like Austen, Bronte, Dickens. Or maybe things like Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird.

15, always considered myself more mentally mature than most 15 year olds, haven't picked up any of those books for a while

As for recommended books, thanks!! However, I have read To Kill A Mockingbird and the likes and I see the beauty of it, and how its so renowned, but its crap. Is that genre based or just that book???

Np. I could name a few more if you liked? Fantasy is pretty much my genre.

Personally, things like To Kill a Mockingbird never interested me - that goes for most of the 'must reads', so maybe you should give them a miss.

A good book, but a little dense for a 15 year old maybe.

>>2159748

My top 5:
Gene Wolfe - Book of the New Sun
Alfred Bester - The Stars my Destination
Patrick Rothfuss - Name of the Wind
Joe Abercrombie - The Blade Itself
Steven Erikson - Gardens of the Moon

I would advise Rothfuss and Abercrombie from my top 5. Others you could read:

Anything by Neil Gaiman / China Meiville. Scott Bakker (The Prince of Nothing series) and Glen Cook (The Black Company series) write great fantasy that is free from cliche and are some of my favourites. Scott Lynch, Lies of Locke Lamora, Sam Sykes, Tome of the Undergates are worth a read too.

The Great Gatsby's a pretty good book. Fun to read and well respected by the literati... not that anyone cares that they think anyways though.
F. Scott Fitzgerald is a great author in general though, I'd recommend him to you.
Oh, and GRRM is pretty entertaining and will help you build some enthusiasm regarding reading.

Whatever, still just recommending some good books.

I'd also recommend Joyce as he's my favourite writer, but he is difficult so give him a read after you've read a fair amount of books.
