It may seem like I am posting this to contradict you, OP, and I am, even though I agree with you, it's just that the whole thing is so strange and ordinary that you need to write a million contradictory statements to even start to circle around what you have felt.

The truth is that lots of people probably do experience God. No, they DO experience God, all the time. How can they not? He's everything. The trouble is just focus, distraction, fear.
A man feels the vastness inside themselves, inexpressible, but then the moment passes, thoughts and feelings return, they forget the vital essence they had, they let it cloud over again with nonsense and they grow small with thoughts and ideas. It is not the singular moment, it is the continuous presence that is so difficult to maintain in life. To go by every day, every moment, under any circumstance, any suffering, all evil, and to face it and say: that's fine, I accept that, because I feel what is eternal within me.
That is not easy. One has to keep returning. But, I believe that once it has been felt truly, then that is it. Like a green shoot pushing through concrete it will push through in time.
