So I actually completed the first draft of my novel. It has a long way to go, the majority is probably complete shit, but I can't think of the last time I've actually got to a milestone in any big sort of project. I'm quite happy right now.

How's your writing going /lit/?

Congrats anon! Don't lost your momentum; creativity responds to discipline.

My book is going swell so far, but the editing is very slow. I have to fight through every inch of it, because now that the first draft is done, I have a lot of messy plotlines and character arcs that I have to completely rewrite and heavily edit, but if I do it wrong I'm just giving myself more work later. So it's really important that this second draft is a major improvement from the first.

That being said, the first several chapters are superb and there's basically final draft.

What's your book about, anon?

Thanks!
It's a romance-magical realism thing centered around the encroachment of dreams on reality. Also Catholicism and demons. It's a bit of a mess and I don't think it'll ever be more than a fun project for me alone, but I'm enjoying it.

That all sounds cool. When you say romance, are you talking about the romance genre, or romanticism set in a magic-realism setting?

My WIP is technically fantasy, but it reads more like historical fiction set in a fiction world. An agonizing amount of research has gone into it (and will until it's published).

When I say romance I mean the romance genre.

Yours sounds interesting! Is that the cover, or just a cover to a book you like?

That's the cover!

Romance is tough, because most people have really strong opinions about it. By default, most of your readers will be female. You'll either have to adapt the book to meet the wants of female readers, or you'll have to stick to your vision of the story at the expense of isolating your main target audience. I don't really read romance much myself, but books with good romantic subplots are hard to find.

The blurb is excellent. I'll keep an eye out for it when you're done.

See, I trick em in with murder, and then I slowly get em invested in the relationship. That being said, I'm writing this for me. I don't expect it to be commercially viable.
