I’m an ex Christian who converted to Islam but I found Orthodox and premodern liturgies aren’t boring. Modernist services are however because they lack what Heidegger calls world (κοσμος), the lack of prayer orientation reflects this: just as Muslims pray toward Mecca and Jews toward Jerusalem, Christians prayed toward the East but all not ortho denominations no longer do this. Unfortunately however while I discovered that Orthodoxy has kino premodern aesthetics the actual ethos of the religion has become modernist. Not to say that one can simply bury one’s head in the sand and try to overcome the problems presented in *modernity* but calling it bad and refusing to acknowledge but Islam has thinkers like Qutb and Maududi who actually engage with modernity and accept the conditions of it while showing Islam provided a functioning alternative ethos to what is prevailing to *modernism*
