Someone called "distilled Americana" a pretentious phrase on this very board last week. Which, ok some retard came along so what? Not one person responded to it for 8 hours before I saw it and called it out. Most responses seemed to be if not in agreement then at least indifferent to the claim. I see this more and more everywhere. It's like most people care more about trying to not appear "pretentious" than just about anything else but why??

I think it comes from the mistaken belief amongst most of society that IQ means nothing (see the "fish can't climb trees so why test it like a monkey" comic) so anything at all that can only be understood by smart people is referred to as pretentious because no one is really smarter than anyone else and writing stuff that presupposes that makes you WRONG.
The only thing that breaks this spell is wearing a lab coat/tweed jacket and holding a degree, then they will jump at the chance to just kiss the foot of such obvious genius.

It's genuinely ruined literature, writing, the study of the human condition. Fucking everything I love, ruined. God I hate normies.

Some people aren't made for thinking. Years ago I was very active in forums, debating, "enlightening" people. I just lost all the appetite for that. I found there's much more in life than trying to convince others. People will find knowledge adapted to themselves.
