What do the elitists of /lit/ think of Bret Easton Ellis?

More specifically his recent works?

>> No.2147749

His twitter is misanthropy central. Its amazing.

>> No.2147748

garbage

>> No.2147751

He kept trying new things, Unlike Palahniuk.

>> No.2147753

His works generally, okay. His recently works, good.

>> No.2147759

Lunar Park was wonderful.

Nah, just the first 60 pages. The rest was pretty decent, but nowhere near as good

A lot of novels start off good or great, then are just okay.

He came back strong for the ending. The ending was nice.

American Psycho dragged in places...but thats the idea I guess

>> No.2147772

Don't know what OP meant by 'his recent works' but 'Imperial Boredrooms' sucked.

>Bored and skimming American Psycho
>Realise nobody in the novel listens to each other
>Realise Im not listening either

Fuck me, how does he do that?

>> No.2147775

Why is everyone in his books so terrible?

people are horribler irl.

I like Ellis. At the same time that he pulls off sophisticated techniques, he also does some incredible simplistic things (the urinal cake from AP).

American Psycho is amazing. The last 30 pages completely absolve the book of its lesser parts.

>> No.2150210

I haven't read his latest stuff. I vaguely remember picking up Glamorama, checking out the first few paged and instantly being bored by it.

I actually did pick up a copy of Imperial Bedrooms but its on the huge 'to read' pile.

Rules of Attraction was his only piece of work that wasn't terrible.

AMERICAN PSYCHO -with the exception of Lunar Park- IS THE WORST.

>> No.2150230

Ok, I think this is the perfect thread to siphon some advice from /lit/:

I absolutely loved American Psycho. It's the only work I've read by Ellis, but despite its flaws it's the most fun I've had reading any book ever.

Is there anything else by him that's worth reading? Could /lit/ give me some pointers as to what I should read next?

>> No.2150232

less than zero is pretty decent considering is the first novel and he was around 20 or so when he wrote it

I started american psycho but stopped around page 100

dunno, there's nothing special about his books, but you can't say he is a bad writer

God Tier - The Rules of Attraction, Less Than Zero, American Psycho

Inbetween Tier - Lunar Park

Mid-Tier - Glamorama, The Informers

Shit Tier - Imperial Bedrooms

Personally I'd put Glamorama in shit tier, but I've been told I'm tragically mistaken, so I'm not so sure. As far as I read it I just couldn't get into it. It didn't seem like Ellis doing his lull you into ignorance of the plot schtick, it actually just seemed boring.
