I've thought I'm probably overdoing the everyman's but I can't help it: it's just so pleasant to have (what I hope to be) a reliable publisher that I can trust to be at least sufficient. My idea is that even if I retroactively discover that there was a poor choice in their translation/editing etc., that I can then just go back and get a more complete edition of a work.

Recommendations? Also, why Pepys from someone else? How could everyman have degraded it? Translations do seem to me the only real obvious spot for a failure that would urge one away from a book (apparently their Cervantes is poor).

Well, Pepys is 11 volumes, and Casanova is normally about 4 to six volumes. They also take the last book out of Smith's wealth of nations, but it's not a crucial part of the analysis. For Voltaire it's not the translation, but the Editor and critical notes along with the selected materials and illustrations.
Dickens is a great choice because it's a reprint of the nonesuch edition

I imagine reading about the Founding Fathers and works put out by them might actually be interesting and uplifting (except they’re not even shown there), but as U.S. history progresses these types of works get more and more progressively neutered by what the military-industrial complex and intelligence agencies want to keep covered up, as well as by globohomo agenda (not homophobic — “global homogeneity”) in general.

Quite a few. For non fiction: Aristotle, Hume, Kant, Heidegger, Hegel and Husserl. Favourite general writer is Montaigne. Also the AJP Taylor history of Europe is great, and Kissinger gives a good overview of basic historical IR. Herodotus (the everyman edition is great as it's translated and has footnotes from a strong 1850s English Christian) and Thucydides were marvelous, Herodotus for relaxed reading and Thucydides for the greatest political realist analysis in history.

For fiction: Milton is my favourite poet, with Shelley, Spencer, Donne, Chaucer and Wordsworth as runners up. My favourite novelist is Dostoevsky, and novel, Demons. Also like Moby Dick.

I'm pretty generic, I guess.
