Where did this idea of "its better to avoid intimacy even though its painful than get close and hurt because its even more painful" come from?

It is from people who have never experienced intimacy and want to cope. The loss is worth it and is why the vast majority of people keep it at despite their losses.

>why the vast majority of people keep it at despite their losses.
The vast majority of people keep pressing the pain button because they think it will eventually dispense a cupcake. They are literally retarded, they keep doing the same things again and again and expecting it to "be different this time."

The pain of loss is truly much greater than the pain of being alone. It’s like Naruto and Sasuke, one grew up with no parents, isolated from everyone, and the other grew up with a loving family who were killed before his eyes. Also it’s a dilemma each man must face in his lifetime, should I get married and risk a nasty divorce or the eventual death and loss of someone so dear to me, or live life a loner who never has to worry about facing a great loss but always wondering if choosing your own isolation was a mistake. Sadly there is no right choice but I decided to get married and have children to avoid growing old alone and bitter.

People don't expect it to be different, they know it will be different just as they know the chance for loss is still there.

Which book did he talk about it?

>> No.21312035

It's cope for people who have broken up with someone but haven't found someone new yet. I was like that for like five years.
This applies to friendships as well as romance.

What do you mean where did it come from? It's not some idea. Hedgehog's Dilemma is a real psychological condition people develop as a coping mechanism from past trauma to avoid being hurt.

Logic. I'm sure you could make a mathematical argument for why the pursuit of existence is stupid
