After recently getting the book A Clockwork Orange as a gift from a friend, I'm wondering is it a good read? What are your opinions.

>> No.2129418

JUSTIN I THINK YOU SHOULD READ THE BOOK AND THEN MAKE YOUR OWN THOUGHTS ON IT.

>> No.2129425

The main draw of the book is the use of language, which is utterly brilliant. A very entertaining read.

>> No.2129429

one could call Burgess a...cunning linguist, no?

>> No.2129440

The version my friend gave me is edited version which has a bottom glossary from page to page, explaining the slang terms, in my opinion that could have drawbacks, as I imagine Burgess used the slang for interpretation. Is that true?

>> No.2129445

>watched movie
>I understood the theme (at least, what I identified as the theme, which seems to be fairly agreed upon by many people I've talked to)
>movie kinda ends strangely thematically but not too bad
>read book
>ending is perfectly inline with the theme
Yeah, read it.

>> No.2129449

It's a fine book. A little obvious in the theme assuming you're paying attention. but it's a quick read, as long as you can manage the slang, which isn't hard.

>cunning linguist
WHERE HAVE I HEARD THAT BEFORE? A MOVIE? A GAME?
Its in my head but I can't figure it out

I think that a glossary would make reading it less enjoyable.

maybe cause it's a really old joke that's been in tons of movies?
