hey guys, writing an essay about this book. just trying to brainstorm ideas
the prompt for the essay is about characters that display dominance over other characters. I was going to write about Tom, Gatsby and Jordan. But how exactly DOES Gatsby proclaim his dominance?

thanks in advance.

If anything, I'd say that Daisy had dominance over Gatsby. You're looking at a man who rewrote himself completely to try and fit the image of the kind of man that Daisy would want.

excellent point.

thats a good point, but doesn't really fit with my thesis:

Through these characters, Fitzgerald is able to demonstrate his opinions about the cutthroat levels of society and how pointless it is for the 20th century civilization to have to resort to such adamant ways of living.

Also, you are using the word "adamant" wrong.

Not OP, but I think Adamant fits there. Gatsby does have an adamantium skeleton and claws, right?

>doesn't fit thesis
If evidence conflicts with a hypothesis or thesis, then.... you might need a new theory

He doesn't. He's a scared little man pretending to be high society when he's actually just an upjumped crook. Tom and Daisy display dominance over gatsby. And the light at the end of the pier that gatsby always stares at? it's a reference to a greek legend. find that legend and you'll have your essay.

that's all you get.

do your own homework, OP
