True. French is pretty bad about this. They have a bunch of different ways of spelling like three different vowel sounds. Then there's Spanish where "su" means pretty much everything. It's been difficult for me to learn Spanish because so much of it is based on context that is not built into the words themselves, if that makes sense.

To me it's a lot more annoying how the same spelling doesn't equate the same pronunciation and you just have to autistically memorize every instance when learning English. See oo for example
