What do you guys think about the gore and porn parts? I think it made the book particularly interesting because they were like some garbage you can find in a stupid gore fantasy site. I think that made the shocking impact because rest of the book has one of the best writing I've ever seen.

I struggled to get through this. I was thoroughly disturbed by the end, yet, I absolutely loved it. I'd never considered the idea of goreporn previously but those passages were very effective in illustrating Partick Bateman's psychosis.

Repression desensitizes people. If a person goes though traumatic life experiences similar to what Christian Bale portrayed in the movie Empire of the Sun, life can become too painful to fully comprehend. The character lacked empathy due to a cycle of daily thought patterns that left him bored with reality and with the need to act progressively destructive so that his brain could register some feeling. I hope Christan Bale has a support network in case he has flashbacks of the traumatic rolls he has played in the past.
