Books will help you understand that the last person to have an original thought died a long time ago.

what kind of creativity are you talking about? In general, the key to creativity is "negative capability" described by Keats. You have to create without knowing anything about what you create. If you have an ego, then you will end up blindly following what you think you know and your mind won't need to create anything. you have to let go of knowledge to create.

but when you talk specifically about saying original things and repeating other people's opinion, it sounds like you are not talking about creativity in general but specifically philosophical creativity or ideation, in which case just read Plato and philosophy, because philosophy will increase your capacity for ideation. but if you read philosophy without negative capability, then you will just end up repeating the opinion of the philosopher you read without understanding it. You have to detach your ego and never assume you understood what you read, and also never think that you have gained knowledge due to what you read. you have to have negative capability. you have to know that you know nothing.

Take a break from everything, books, internet, social media, 4chan, everything. Just you and your thoughts.
This is why so many good books are written in prison, there you got time to think and day dream

i think the internet just made it apparent that no one has ever had original thoughts. not literally, but for the most part.. everything we interpret/desire is some abstract from our true nature. 'original' thought stems from experience and/or understanding what makes us tick, and extrapolating. or something like that

I don't think it's even possible to have "original" thoughts per se, but you know what I mean.

In a discussion with someone about this, they once told me:
>But explain you must, because they don't get clarified in fiction.
>Dialogue is the only thing that does it for me.
>To speak a thing as plainly as you can and be as honest with yourself as you are the other person that's the skill that whets an idea
>That makes it good and sharp or else shears off enough of it that you have to remake the thing entirely.
>It might be more affecting in fiction-form, but you have to make sure the idea is sumptuous enough and clear in your mind before you can really emit it through image and metaphor.

For context, I said:
>I try to get them (my ideas) out in my writing, but I feel I can only really approach them obliquely there, since I don't like to get preachy, and I feel they're more affecting shown than explained.

What would be your opinion here?

creativity is cope
unless you think about a world
where nobody acts like an obnoxious
gypsy / nigger / whathaveyou...

if you get good at that you can
also imagine ways of arriving there
... now THAT is real creativity

you are welcome.
