Is Gravity’s Rainbow hard to read? I’m getting back to reading after a long lay off and I don’t want to start with anything too heavy. Got Gravity’s Rainbow for cheap at my local charity shop today though.

You just sample a page or the first chapter to see if it’s too hard for you.
Yeah, I hear it’s loopy reading. Maybe that’s a different one I’m thinking of, w/e

First chapter is 200 pages long. I just read the first page and thought it was pretty normal but I don’t want to be surprised halfway through and have to either force myself through it and not enjoy myself or drop it.

It gets pretty boring after like 350 pages

it's not as good as it sounds
it's the weakes of his great novels
mason and dixon is just sublime and against the day is his peak even if it remains unread

It's hard in the same way Atlas Shrugged is hard, ie it's about 500 pages too long

The style is easy enough. The difficulty is sticking with Pynchon's long and rambling digressions. Personally I love them - they're the best reason to read him. But if you have limited patience or like the plot to move quickly, you'll have a tough time.

read R A lafferty instead

I still think crying of lot 49 is his most digestible. and really recommend it compared too the gargantuan of gravity's rainbow, and Crying of Lot 49 is a book you can really break apart, and study his writing style.
>>20969854
Op don't bother reading something you might not finish and instead, invest into the digestible and just as stylized 'Crying of Lot 49'
