i just realized that egoists are the intellectual equivalent of luddites.

This, except equating religion to logos is not correct.

Contrarily, as Plotinus pointed out in the beginning, if a person makes up a religion to narrate 'creation/god' and if they aren't beginning with the world itself, then what they make-up and call 'God' is their own Ego.

Logos, Ethos and Pathos are, of course, real words which long predated the religion and was absent of discovery amongst the Hebrews
