Dostoyevsky never really got over the influence which the European mystery novel and the sentimental novel made upon him. The sentimental influence implied that kind of conflict he liked—placing virtuous people in pathetic situations and then extracting from these situations the last ounce of pathos. Heart-to-heart talks, confessions in the Dostoevskian manner, are also not in my line.

That's literally what he wrote. That's like saying Salvador Dali made too much surrealist art, or that Franz Liszt made too much Romantic music.

I don't think so. I think the only thing people can do is what they want...? It's very rare for people to do things they don't want to do, sure people do trivial things because they have to or things like go to work even though they don't enjoy it but they still want the working life style or a clean house or whatever...

I suppose my point is, do you think worshipping one's conscience depends on there being free will? [Or something like that].

Resurrection is not possible. Just think about it, why can't this obvious fact compute in your brains? Because you love him.

Remember when you first fell in love? You couldn't see any flaw with the person. Why? Because love blinds.

Christianity uses love to blind its followers. That was Paul's genius, he engineered it. Jesus died for his own sins, not yours, that's the truth.

The Christian delusion is very powerful. If you guys get out you'll be for awhile telling others these things, because to say them helps one move on.

Why do you think atheists always talk about their atheism? Because they can't move on from the Christian disease and they think talking about it will help, which it does, but you have to sophisticated about it.

Jesus has to be seen as mentally ill, and Paul perhaps as the evil one. That's I think, the true way out.

“Oh, there are such people everywhere.” Tikhon raised his eyes and smiled.
“And I am sure that you find such belief more respectable after all than complete unbelief....” Stavrogin began to laugh.
“On the contrary, complete atheism is more respectable than worldly indifference,” Tikhon answered, with visible gaiety and good-nature.
“Oho, that’s how you get round it!”
