I want to write about this event. I find it humorous that a man who uses an image of weariness and despair gets a job offer. I wonder why a company would choose the hire such man? Perhaps everyone else in the company is like him. Perhaps the image deeply resonated with the potential employer, they see such expression of emotion as a sign of a passionate worker. I agree with this, brief moments of peace are much more worthwhile within a lifetime of suffering rather than an eternity. For me it's less of moments of peace, but more for moments of beauty, although I suppose those two can be the same things. I find there is beauty to be found in suffering. Those moments when I am down, depressed, and I'm staring out a window on a rainy day while music plays. All of my senses were overwhelmed with beauty and emotion in that moment. It was nothing of pleasure or peace, but it was something worthwhile when suffering usually seems meaningless. That is what I live for.

I might do that, but I have to leave for class in a moment. I was thinking that I could fit such a moment in a novel I have an idea for, I don't want to speak too much about it because it is an idea I think has potential and don't want anyone to run away with that idea, but it has themes of suffering and absurdity (in both the existential and humorous sense) and sending a depressed frog to a potential employer could be the kind of thing that would happen in the novel.

I keep having visions of the Great Plains in the dead of winter. They are vast panoramas, not only visually but conceptually vast in my mind. I am watching Dune again and it made me think about how here in the US we basically have the same clothes no matter what environment you're in. It's always stuff like t-shirt, jeans, pants, etc. Except when it's cold. Usually these are cotton, denim, wool, polyester, etc again. Why don't we really dress for the environment? I live in the US south. It's humid as hell and hot, and only ever getting worse due to climate change and all that. Now, because of this, my daily attire (when I can choose my own) is simply basketball shorts and a cotton t-shirt. They allow air to circulate when they can, but of course this does nothing for the humidity.

I really don't know where I'm going with this, but the thoughts did occur to me. Or like how it's sunny as hell sometimes but no one uses an umbrella like the Atreides Mentat does. I wish it wouldn't look weird to dress for your climate, at least here in America.

I was going to reply to this post as me LARPing as a mighty khan but instead I'll just tell you that I've always though the great plains of America was a similar environment to the steppes of Eurasia and the various native tribes weren't too different from the nomads of the steppes, even if horses weren't introduced to them until the 1500s. I've always thought that if history turned out differently, there would be "khanate" across the great plains of north America, sandwiched between the mountains to the east and west. I went to a new dentist last month, and she insisted that I had eight cavities that needed to be filled. I immediately was skeptical, because I brush and floss religiously, and have never needed a single filling before. Otherwise, my teeth are totally fine, and she was horrified that the first dentist would suggest that I needed 8 fillings. Moral of the story: trust your gut, and be VERY skeptical of greedy immigrant dentists who did their training in India.

Also, if you have tons of cavities, you should probably use high-fluoride toothpaste and start flossing regularly.
