20887358 No.20887358 [Reply] [Original]

Why do chuds read this book as anything but a post-colonial, environmentalist, post-left anarchist novel?

I'm glad someone also gets it. Pynchon is a true genius of the post-modern.

You frame the distinction in a way that divides you and your chud allies against your common enemy. You serve your enemy.

its literally one of the most scathing critiques of capitalism that one can possibly read and people come away with it thinking it someone isn't a leftist novel.

Hi, OP here, and I am an enormous faggot, and to clarify, Gravity's Rainbow is a markedly post-leftist novel, seeing all industrial-age ideologies as players in the game that will doom humanity ("kekule dreams the serpent"). Gravity's Rainbow is against the control of maleficent powers: capitalism, totalitarian control, imperialism, and chuds, but it sees conventional leftism as complicit and unable to fundamentally change these evils ("AN ARMY OF LOVERS CAN BE BEATEN")

Post-left anarchism. Wasn’t even a thing when Pynchon was writing, you fucking loser spouting terms you just looked up on Wikipedia

>> No.20890550

>>20890152
Maybe Pynchon wasn't literally a proponent of post-left anarchism, anon, but it seems true in the sense that he was critical of modern systems of power while rejecting dialectical materialism and the need for the working class to rise up or whatever. Maybe I'm outing myself as a midwit here, but it seems correct to call him post-leftist.

I agree, and that's kinda what keeps me from enjoying the book. I've tried 3 times and only ever got halfway through and it just became a chore to read. I don't know if maximalism really works when you never lived in the time the author did; too many references fall flat. 2666 is great maximalism for a 32 year old like me
