All the shiny gadgets and gizmos and wonders of science mean jack shit if the inner world of man is in complete shambles. The "progress" we currently see combined with the absolute state of modern man's spiritual condition all but guarantees that the majority of people will surrender their human spirit entirely to the promises of science and technology instead of trying to cultivate any sort of inner transformation that would allow one to transcend the cares of the material world entirely. What we've lost can hardly even be articulated because it's too immense. The imminent global control grid under the banner of the new religion of science will all but solidify the outright destruction of man's inner world and the final enslavement of the species. But for books, I'd suggest Modern Man In Search Of A Soul, The Undiscovered Self, Revolt Against The Modern World, The Book Of Disquiet, The Perennial Philosophy, The Exegesis Of PKD. Cheers.
