Why is this a bad idea?

>make kids take IQ test at 5 years old
>have elementary school be location based ie you just go to the local school
>have high school be based on IQ
>if your IQ is 120+ you get free ride to a boarding school where you can be separated from the low IQ society and mingle students who also have 120+ IQ
>everyone else just goes to a regular high school

Go back to Plato. Eugenics should be based on a lot more than just IQ. Plenty of high IQ individuals are insufferable charlatans, their actual value as beings is still determined by their choices.

There are two problems. First of all is that IQ tests are bad at measuring the intelligence of younger children, and 5 is a very young age in IQ testing. Different genders (and even subspecies) of child will have different developmental stage lengths that make IQ testing at a very young, designated age a poor method of determining lifetime potential. Your design is fine for super genius outlier children but badly selects ones that are just bright.

Because that puts more power into the hands of institutions rather than the individual.

The individual is not going to fast-track their own education from 6 years old and ends up with more "power" in their "hands" by being segregated into an education system that is specialized to deal with them.

>the individual ends up with more power by being segregated by the state instead of taking the active role and deciding for themselves how their education should be handled

That's what happens in my country, only you take the test at 11/12. Your score decides what school (grammar school) you are able to go to, with the best schools requiring the highest (obviously).

The school I went to was great. Had a flourishing drama, music, and art scene, with a good culture. There was no bullying and almost everyone got along well with each other. The majority of the teachers were caring and knowledgeable.

I believe that the lower-level schools (called high schools, rather than grammar schools, as they do not require a test for entry) divide their students by ability: there's classes made up of the smartest people, then people of medium ability, and then very low classes made up of the stupid and badly behaved. The result is that the stupid don't disrupt the learning of the intelligent and can leave school at 16 to begin a lifetime of manual labour, while the intelligent can stay and pursue higher education.

I didn't take the official test to get into the grammar school, because I am an immigrant, and instead took an IQ test. Fortunately, I was already well-read at 12 and so was let in due to my very high verbal IQ.

It's getting worse and worse though, because now even the highest forms of school have to include people with learning disabilities etc, slowing down progress for every student

You do realize that 90% of high IQ people develop personality disorders or schizophrenia? That's not really a good basis for societal investment
The current system on the other hand, rewards mid-wits, who can be counted on to follow the beaten track and support the system, and a minority of less fortunate overachievers, who will be so invested in the system once they get through, and it works admirably
