Do you plan your reading or just read whatever you feel like?

When I was in college I browsed this board endlessly and read a bunch of the stuff on the recommended reads images. Now I just read whatever I feel like, as opposed to trying to hit a certain standard for a bunch of anonymous people

I planned my reading for the next 7 months.
Planning your reading can help you on stop buying books because you've already a backlog list, it makes clear that you're buying something that you can't read in the next months.

It's 50% planning and 50% feeling. I try to avoid reading two books of the same genre consecutively, so I'll think ahead, but I don't really consider which book I'll actually read.

A loose plan. I have a list of ~20 books I want to reread in the near future and ~10 books I want to buy and read for the first time. Often I’ll go on a whim if the mood takes me. I just order one book at a time so when I’m a couple days away from finishing a book, I’ll order my next read. You don’t want to make reading a chore by having some year long syllabus set in stone. Ultimately read what you want and don’t be afraid to drop a book if it isn’t doing much for you. Just don’t make a habit of doing it too often. You can always come back to it

>> No.20871908

I make list after list of plans but always end up deviating from them.

It was kind of blackpilling to realise that billionaires are just regular dumbfucks who got lucky. I sort of nurtured the hope that there are epic secret societies that have technologies 5000 years exceeding publicly known ones, that they control the entire flow of history and have colonies on Neptune or something. But you look at dudes like Gates and Musk, and they're about as intelligent as average redditor.

>But you look at dudes like Gates and Musk, and they're about as intelligent as average redditor.
>average redditor
I think you guys actually miss how unintelligent a typical person is. A brain teaser which filters half of college graduates is:
>you have a chocolate bar and a piece of candy and their total price is $1.10. We know the chocolate bar is $1.00 more, how much do they both cost?
It's not that these folks are average, they are far far far above average, but the average is astoundingly not smart.

I plan my reading in the sense that I decide I will read a certain book someday in the distant future and I may even buy the book in preparation but that is about it. Most books sit on my self for a few years before I read them but only about a dozen or so have gone unread for over 5 years.

The only restriction I have put on myself is that if I pick up a book, I have to finish it. Doesn't matter what book it is. It is a bit extreme but I used to always start books and never finish them.
