I'm reading Maiden Castle by John Cowper Powys. I read the first chapter then a neighbor decided to start hammering. So far it's more accessible and funnier than Weymouth Sands, the novel before it.

Five chapters into Inherent Vice. Pretty comfy read, this is my first Pynchon novel but I think I like him.

I'm re-reading a naruto fanfic called A Symbol of Subjugation. I like it because it's super autistic about east asian politics (both real and fictional) and it's very gay.

It's fucking brilliant, to be frank.

I was struggling a bit at the start. It's told through a narrator's voice, so there's lots of jumping around the timeline and even the narrator's frequent abstract musings; add lots of characters to that as well.
I'm used to it now, though, and feel really immersed. I'm not beelining to the end - I'm halfway through and very comfortably here, really experiencing each event.

It's more varied than Giovanni's Room, which is brilliant but one-note pain, and I prefer the dialogue over Another Country (which was also brilliant). It feels less concerned with making points than Another Country was, from what I remember - at least this far in. Maybe because so many of the characters are young and still have starry-eyed experiences of self-discovery all the time. That might change later in the book.
Not that making a point is a bad thing, Another Country really like.. intellectually challenged me (on top of being an amazing drama.)

Lots in here about the transormative power of sex. I miss being single and free, even if I was frustrated so much of the time. He writes so beautifully about sex as a way of getting to know someone, and that unique intimate feeling that happens before someone becomes familiar to you.

Finishing reading Mysteries by Hamsun. About to start Wayfarers by the same writer later today. Also started Rabelais. I enjoy some of it but it definitely loses something being read in current times and in translation. I can see how it made a huge impact though. Lastly reading Plato here and there

Yeah I’ve read it 3 or 4 times now. Nagel is such an intriguing character. It gets better on rereads knowing how it ends. I still feel like there is a lot more to get from it and I’ve barely scratched the surface. What are your thoughts? Especially on the main few characters like Nagel, Miniman, Martha and Danny?
>>20868299
I’ve read 4 Hamsun books and liked them all. I think Growth of the Soil and Mysteries are the best. The latter is very profound and gives a lot of food for thought. The ending is shocking and makes you reevaluate everything. I liked Hunger a lot. It reminds me of The Trial which I also love. Pan and Victoria are okay but each have their moments.

It's been a long time since I've read it but I believe Miniman was called The Midget in the one I read lol. I think the Nagel archetype (that's the main guy right?) is used in the other Hamsun books I've read like in Dreamers, the Segelfoss books. And the Midget appeared in another guise in Dreamers.
