Nabokov is good in general. Other prose authors I like are Kafka (you can start with his short stories like In the Penal Colony if you find his novels intimidating) and Dumas. For poetry, Donne, Keats, and Yeats are my favorites.

Remember that these recommendations are coming from a board where the majority don’t read. Get into the physical habit of reading by choosing something that interests you and is preferably easy. Short chapters are a bonus. Even though reading is easy it is still a skill that needs to be built up. Attention span, ability to analyze, critical thought, recognize styles, etc are things to work on. Nothing wrong with reading schlock for your first few books. The main things is to keep interested till you develop the habit because often reading is like working out. It’s easy to get out of the habit if you stop
