20829336 No.20829336 [Reply] [Original]

I went to a party
I came in hot
Made decisions beforehand
My mind made up
Things that wouldmakeme happy
To dothem or not
Each option weighed carefully
Aplan for each thought
And then I walked through the door past the open concept
And saw Violet bent backwards over the grass
Seven years old with dandelions grasped tightly in her hand
Arched like a bridge in a fallen handstand
Grinning wildly like a madman
With the exuberance that only doing nothing can bring
Waiting for the fireworks to begin
And in that moment I decided to do nothing about everything

As much as I love Lana's music I don't think she's a brilliant poet. Or maybe confessional poetry is just not my thing. I do appreciate her for getting lots of young people into poetry and for being a pop artist who actually cares about art. She definitely improved the quality of her song lyrics in the last couple of years, hopefully we'll see that in her second poetry book too

Bleh.

Miserable.

She's not a good poet. A much better musician than poet.

But you know what she is?

She's a great songwriter, and a great lyricist.

And she's also fattening up very nicely. Look at her, this is from just a few months ago. Look at her plumping up, swelling in her hips and her thighs, the soft swell of love handles as her belly comes in.

I want to teach Lana how to write good poetry as I feed her and fatten her up. I'll take her through Shakespeare's sonnets as I gorge her on doughnuts. I'll recite Wordsworth and Coleridge's "Lyrical Ballads" as she feasts on cake and pie. We'll read Robert Frost and Wallace Stevens as she gloriously eats ice cream.

I'll make her a great poet and I'll swell her waistline. By the time I'm done with her, she'll be as good a female poet as Sylvia Plath. And she'll be wearing 5XL jeans.

>> No.20831377

>all the simps itt praising it
It's garbage, in every respect except it's possible subjective meaning to her. It's the result of someone who doesn't understand poetry thinking they can write poetry and imitating what they perceive to be the features of poetry. Any semblance of a meaning or theme in there is just dilettantish grasping after a 'thing', some turn of phrase or object, that sounds good but which is ultimately meaningless. The empty trinkets of a shallow and random use of the fantasy or imagination.

Her songs are overrated as well, and, just like her 'poetry' isn't far off from the shallow womanism which is Rupi Kaur, her music is the slightly more original commercial trash. But it's still extremely superficial cliched commercial trash like everything else released now. Look at this, it's the lowest indulgence into that now typical trait of woman which adores gushy pseudo-profundity that justifies their personal fantasy:

She's also really weird looking. Now Kate Bush on the other hand...

it's a poem about an event and a moral of the story

the theme is childish joy and mental sanity, pointed out by a clear picture (the child forming an arch), the tone (lofty mingled with seriousness), and the comparisons.
>not poetry
her poems have everything needed: euphonia, stylistic devices, control over language, substance (usually love, ennui, breakups, stardom, history...) and style. if you don't like what she writes about, that's on you, but it's still poetry.

You're giving her too much credit. She is an industry plant and so is every ''artist'' who magically starts raking in hundreds of millions of views on youtube, when the world population can't be higher than one billion. The music you listen to is orchestrated from the top down unless you dig for the obscure stuff that is prevented from reaching the mainstream, because it doesn't incorporate soundwaves which have the sole purpose of manipulating you.

tl;dr: famous music artists are industry plants and the elites want you to listen to their music because they manipulate you through the sound waves all mainstream music have
