When I was reading fantasy in high school, I've got one book with a female chosen one protagonist that had lot of really violent fight scenes, some torture. I've thought: "my dude knows what I need", till we got to the scene of mortally wounded woman giving birth in detail. That sure made me double check the author's name, and it was a woman.
