A Christian is someone who identifies as a Christian.

This is sound, but this identification is only a partial condition that works alongside all the other aspects of being Christian, such as belief, praxis, etc. But at the same time it still IS condition necessary to being Christian.

It describes an empty identity like a database schema with only an id field. You could have just said x. It's a reference id like a serial number with no meaning. The idea is to formally remove all meaning from the label but then add new associated meanings and reshape perceived reality.
