Are there any books that discuss the ideas that Taleb is putting forward here? I'm especially interested since I have just come from reading Walden. Thoreau's ideas are pretty much directly opposed to those of Taleb.

Thoreau is an absolutely perfect example of what Taleb is talking about. He was literally staying at his buddy Ralph Waldo Emerson's lake house. It's an urbanist idealizing a vacation.

This guy went off the cliff during the pandemic. Literally makes zero sense if you look at what happened between and his postdoc Joe Norman. They wrote a manuscript regarding the precautionary principle and climate which seemed generally very well composed for what it was. The postdoc fucked off to rural New England to be some quasi-homesteader with his wife and just take it easy. Didn't take the vaccine which alienated Taleb and his other monkey cronies. Literally just fell for his own IYI bullshit.

CONCLUSIONS
The Amish we studied had very high levels of physical activity, which may contribute to their low prevalence of obesity. This group probably represents an upper extreme for "lifestyle PA" in North America today.
