Not really, but somewhat relevant. This whole thing is kinda pointless. In the end, think about what are the practical implications of either way, in a micro and a macro scale.

Firstly, The Nature of True Virtue by Jonathan Edwards. This sort of dispels utilitarianism in a roundabout sort of way like this: God's goal, to the extent that we can understand it, is certainly not the mere happiness of man or of individual men. Instead, because we cannot understand it, we should seek not happiness in life but the celebration and advocacy of the glory of God. Now this obviously begs the question (what does advocating for the glory of God look like?), but the point is that the interpretation and search for this answer is not in itself meaningless. Furthermore, this represents a fundamental issue for utilitarianism because it states the best life is that that shuns mere happiness for something more. In the jargon, utility is maximized when utility is foregone. The thrust being that utility is a pitifully "flat" and one-dimensional measure of human experience.

The Theological Origins of Modernity by Gillespie is another cool book detailing the way that early modern and late medieval philosophers led us to what at first seems like the collapse of God and divinity but in truth is the smuggling of God and divinity into the natural and human realms.
