Pic related. I'm trying to write a story with a female character whose hair I want to describe, but there's one part I'm still missing. I thought maybe I'd find some ideas here. The sentence I'm struggling with below:

"When left untamed as he preferred, it spills down in wavy black ___ that eventually cascade into rolling curls past her shoulders."

I've considered 'locks', 'bunches', and 'manes' but nothing sounds right. Also feel free to mention if you don't like what I already came up with
