I would like to enjoy reading poetry and maybe write some, but i don’t exactly find it enjoyable. What about poetry, to you, makes it more enjoyable to read than a novel or short story?

I'm just wondering, why do you want to write poetry if you don't enjoy it? Theres so much poetry I feel like you'd enjoy something.

For me it’s Shklovski and Brik.

I like rhythm, so I always tell people to read poetry aloud. Try that, if you still don’t care for it, then poetry is probably not for you.

I've always enjoyed poetry for it's ability to say a lot with very little. It's a great vehicle for thematic devices and figurative language. That being said, it's a very diverse form of literature, so I would encourage you to do some looking and find out what kind of poetry you actually enjoy, or look into whether an author you already like has any poetic material. Lovecraft and Poe had poetry in their bodies of work, and if you want to read things that are more free form I've always liked Charles Bukowski.

you can probably find some intro books that guide you around the genre, you'll figure out what types you're more interested in and what you're not into.

Figuring out a genre without some introduction guides is tough. There is so much to see and it's unclear what to focus on at the beginning.

What poets have you tried reading? In any case, if you're browsing here and you are older than 20 you're probably too dead inside to understand a new artform, I'd say don't bother.

It's the grammar that makes it fun. I like the way how you can make something sound new with the use of another word
