I've been pirating books for a long time the one thing that has bothered me is the fact that they all have typos or weird formatting errors or a bunch of gobbedygook nonsence data. Not to mention have random issues with things like custom font sizes, margins, etc. that many e readers provide. The most common things I see are words with h's replaced with n's, ri being replaced with an n, l and i being swapped. The only places that have fairly clean versions of books are project Gutenberg, standard e-books, and buying the eBook through amazon.
I mostly download from z-lib and libgen and while PDFs are mostly error free, any text based format has issues. Am I just dumb? Why is it like this?

It’s not just you, it’s everyone.
Just be grateful that you have access to so much of humanity’s wealth of knowledge and don’t let them bother you, especially in these times of incredibly oppressive gatekeeping, paywalling and censorship.

I don't think I've been to a library in the last 7 or so years.

It's frustrating, and frankly embarrassing to have a book with typos in it. Piracy has always been the way to get a superior copy of stuff and books seem to be the one thing left to the wayside. I'm glad I can download books but my autism with acquiring archival grade copies won't let me let it go.

Go sign up for a library card, it's not hard. You need to support your local library before it's too late.

They are likely OCR errors from scanned pages.

I noticed that too. If you're such an entitled ingrate bitch then go payfag. The rest of us will take the free books, errors and all. I read like 100 books a year and some of them are really fucking expensive if I were to buy. I need piracy or I would be bankrupt. Thank you to whoever uploads to libgen, you are gods amongst men.

I always assumed publishers use special characters to produce more uniform formatting and page spacing in PDFs, which don't translate well to the pure text epub and mobi formats. But >>20660586 sounds more plausible.
