yeah, I might've gone a bit overboard with the ridiculous, but that's my point. I can't believe academics would fall into the trap your undergraduate studies alone should dissuade you from, should proof you against: not reading the literature, assuming in inter-disciplinary work, not working outside your field, being too narrowly educated... the list could go on. This is "University 101: For Toddlers, First Year Students"
Unfortunately I see this every day, and it is entirely laziness, comfort and ignorance; in a certain sense also spite and pessimism: what does it matter if p is not inside my field, I talk about p as it is seen from the viewpoint of my field... these arguments are very popular and they are entirely the above said, entirely lazy and comforting and ignorant.

Anybody can look at some numbers and see that numbers make other numbers change, but it takes an exceptionally high IQ to properly appreciate depraved art.

Differences between fields are trivial when we consider that all humans are subject to a limitation of knowledge due to our lack of omnipresence and our faulty reasoning abilities that cannot distinguish what makes sense from what is real.

I’ve been rereading this recently and it reminds me of when I was completely obsessed with it in my teenage years, staying up to 3 AM just to finish a particular chapter. The chapters are still really fucking enjoyable even if I currently reject the whole Rationalist movement. HJPEV is genuinely one of my favorite main characters in media (if not my favorite character in general period) and I’ve definitely been influenced by his personality (even if that means I’ve inherited it from Eliezer who is a bit of a nut.)

Also, Quirrell and Dumbledore are extremely based. The particular sequel fics range from trash to really fucking good, and I do not regret reading it at all, whatsoever. I give it a 10/10 just for nostalgia purposes even if I do admit that it is completely bloated at times. I have the EPUB version of my phone and still reread it some times and it’s *still* so fucking good all these years later.

Yes, it has also influenced me quite. I had a blast reading it. And it is a shame that I have not been able to find any other smart work of literally fiction with characters as compelling as Quirrell.

I didn't particularly enjoy the whole resurrection/magical girl thing, though.

The story changes a lot after the first chapters. If you left it before chapter 35 or so, you probably can't understand the sheer magnificence of it all.

And, no; the first chapters are not bad. In fact, many of the things that happen later are carefully foreshadowed in the first chapters. A little patience is required, for sure, but the reward is immense.

1 The world is everything that is the case.
2 What is the case, the fact, is the existence of atomic facts.
3 The logical picture of the facts is the thought.
4 The thought is the significant proposition.
5 Propositions are truth-functions of elementary propositions. (An elementary proposition is a truth-function of itself.)
6 The general form of truth-function is: [p, ξ, N(ξ)]. This is the general form of proposition
