A friend of mine wanted advice on how to start reading as a hobby, since they probably got the attention span of your average zoomer I’m thinking of giving them pic. They seemed very curious about it.
Personally loved it, especially the letters of the narrator by his fucked up mom at the end as well as the house-plot itself.

You think ergodic lit like that would be good for someone to start off reading, just so they can find joy in it first?

I usually just recommend something short, easy to read, but good, like The Hobbit or The Sailor who Fell from Grace with the Sea

Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse-Five
Albert Camus, The Stranger

Give him The Sound & The Fury just to fuck with him. That opening benji chapter will do the trick.

Those are good if you’re already someone who likes reading, but I think they lean more towards edgy thrillers, if you could recommend any

Read Albert Camus, The Plague. If it’s anything like it, with an interesting background plot but just a lot of philosophy at the forefront I don’t think it’d be good for beginners

Recommendation-wise it sounds right on the money lol thx

How does it end? I dropped it about 70 pages before the end, right after Navidson went back to the house. Read all the complimentary parts, too. This books is the definition of style over substance.
Johnny is Zampano, right?

Pretty sure he dies, with the footage of him disappearing into the void of the house. And yeah, but style is what can catch someone’s attention and get them to invest into the reading experience when they usually wouldn’t, hence why I chose it. It’s worth finishing for the letters at the end tho, keeps you reading after the house plot.
It’s the bit I actually found captivating in Johnny’s life. Don’t think so, atleast I didn’t have any suspicions of that.

I don't know, I wouldn't give a book to someone who can't read the same as I wouldn't give a framed picture to someone fully blind.
