Sure. But do get a modern textbook, or something to look at. Roman law can be a good case study but most of our Roman legal culture we have from law codes comes from the 4th century onwards which was a different legal field from say the time of Cicero and the Republic. If you live in America, Australia, the UK and so on than you should look at how common law works. The Roman Republic is closer in this regard to the Later Empire as the Roman Jury existed in the Republic but the Later Empire, law was done by professional Judges without a jury.
