Do you ever plan on reading it?

I've looked at the words on the pages, but I don't think I'll realy ever end up reading it.

I read it in high school because my English teacher gave it to me. It's more digestible if you read it out loud.

I stopped at 30 pages. It's enjoyable when you take the reading slow. If you have the patience to consult a guide or look up the general story/themes then it makes it far easier to understand. Will get back to it at some point

Nope. Modernism sucks dicks. It's just a bunch of deluded pseuds who had no idea about anything. Children of existentialism, forerunners of postmodernism, they had no answers, no foresight, no vision. It's too empty, superficial, and hollow to penetrate the depths of human nature. It's made by pseuds for pseuds, and it's a waste of time along with much of the 20th century dark age.

If Burgess can extract and absorb as much information from it as he did, then so can I. That dude talks about this book like a regular novel.

I don't see why you wouldn't if you were a big Joyce fan. Even if not it's worth reading parts of it. Great book.

I intend to make another attempt, but it's at the very bottom of my to-read pile stacked with shit like War and Peace and Count of Monte Cristo and other shit that's too much of a commitment for my lifestyle.

>> No.20592995

Yeah. I've read out of context passages from it that really moved me or made me laugh, I plan on reading it after I finish my current book. I already found a cheap copy at a used book store.

after i get a good handle of french italian and german. After 1.5 years of learning french the bit that i reread seemed so much more comprehensible. And all the words that i did not understand were irish. The fault with reading the book is saying its english lit and not a melange of the languages Joyce spoke.
