huh?

yeah that bitch was crazy. still i really enjoyed the alien aspect, and the whole setting up civilization bit was good even though the characters got on my nerves.

There is a hot new normie book called Hail Mary by Andy Weir about first contact. Same guy who wrote The Martian. More of a screenplay than a book imo so you could just wait until they make it a movie starting Chris Pratt or whoever..

>> No.20561717

OP here, a friend just recommended the Three Body Problem to me. Any of you read it? Is it good?
>>20561708
>More of a screenplay than a book imo
That sounds pretty unappealing but I'll look into it, thanks anon.

Book 1 is good, book 2 amazing, book 3 weird but still good.

People go to the North Pole for the first time, surprise! Martians are already there! They also have really nice women, so let's go to Mars with them. Hey, it's pretty neat and advanced up there, quite the utopia. Back to Earth to tell everyone about it. But another surprise: Earth is on the verge of a war! Queue lots of politics for the remainder of the book.

That sounds a bit shit but I'm still putting it on the list and reading it

It's actually pretty good though.

Nice, well I'll be reading it anon. I just love the concept of humans meeting aliens lately and have been craving more

One interesting fun fact is that it was published the same year War of the Worlds was and how it goes into an entirely different direction.

>> No.20562723

despite this being a setting I personally adore, there isn't much I can recommend...
children of time
azimov did a few first encounters in his books of short stories
the left hand of darkness is sort of one, a rare example of tranny-adored literature that is actually quite lovely

Fuck. Apparently the English translation omits a ton of text. The main appeal of the novel is how comfy it is and how deeply it explores its setting.

>> No.20562761

>>20562723
I'll put those on the list. Left Hand of Darkness sounds familiar, what's it about?
>>20562743
There might be a good fan translation somewhere

>> No.20562769

>>20562761
I hope it exists because it is one of the best sci-fi novels I've read.

I'll look around and see what I can find, fingers crossed

a (sort of) human explores a (sort of) ancient offbranch of humanity that naturally evolved to become hermaphrodites which developed to if I remember correctly the industrial age and aren't really aware that he isn't one of them. The ultimate objective of the main character is to open up first contact, political and trade negotiations. But things don't quite go to plan and he finds himself travelling across the planet escaping those who would use/kill him for their own political gains, while experiencing the people, seasons and nations around him as he goes. Its one of the staples of the scifi charts that get suggested on this board

interesting. I'll put it on the list, thanks anon.
