I just finished the Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway. I took forever to finish it because I found it so boring.

So much of the novel is just the characters hanging out and describing cities and food. A bunch of guys simp for an uninteresting girl. The conflict and character exploration is super overstated by the fans of the book.

I think it also a super self-indulgent look into the Lost Generation.
>Oh no! We are so important and our lives are so sad despite being able to do so many cool stuff while being "broke."

Is everyone just pretending to like this book or did I miss something?

As a vet with a broken dick I found it very relatable.

imo hemingway is overrated
>meathead prose designed for midwits
>everyone is miserable, grumpy, and unappreciative of their massive loads of cash
>live and travel in amazing places, they just drink and quarrel all day
>every other page someone is taking a drink
>talks endlessly about masculinity, never does anything masculine, can't provide for anyone, can't make anyone happy, string of failed marriages and children who hate him
>his son trooned out, proving him a shite father figure and a failure of a man
>blew his brains out in the living room

At least Mishima walked the walk. Hemingway is a poser and a little faggot poofter.

Hemingway wrote The Old Man and the Sea.
And a bunch of other horrible books that people hype for no reason.
I think a lot of literature people are just like him: miserable, alcoholic, self-absorbed, and a coin flip for suicide. They like him because of that, not because he's a good writer.
He has the rare ability to make extraordinary events seem dull. Maybe people enjoy that.

It has a lot of pointless stuff as you mentioned, but this book was groundbreaking stylistically when it was published. Hence its reputation.

It's a testament to his influence that today it seems a bit ordinary.

I feel like he's an example of how men don't write good literature

I felt the same way about The Sun Also Rises. But I really enjoyed his short stories.

I liked how he portrayed a thot and those who simp for her, especially the jew. When I read it it made me realize hos stupid it is to desire those liberated w*men. And the emasculated protagonist was relatable.

Hemingway is a hack, don't worry about it at all. You learned your lesson, now find ablution in Fitzgerald

I thought it was funny.
Jake was kind of a sad sack but Bill and Mike were funny.
I was glad they left Paris. The fishing trip was fun.
