>”A book was never ‘read.’ Here, as elsewhere, language betrayed the true nature of the activity. To say that a book was read was to make the same mistake as the gambler who crowed about winning as though he’d taken it by force of hand or resolve. To toss the number-sticks was to seize a moment of helplessness, not only to relinquish a jealous handful of heartbeats to the unpredictable mark of another man’s quill, it was to allow oneself to be written. For what was a book it not a long consecutive surrender to the movement of another’s soul?”

Is he right? Is reading pointless, gay and dumb because somebody else wrote it?

Theres quite a lot of mexicans and hispanics in general who descend from the upper caste latin american elite. In my case I have been told by progressive liberal students that I had "white european priviledge" because im relatively pale so most likely I descend from European colonizers, wtf. I just like to see what Tucker is mainstreaming this week. Anarcho-tyranny is not only a useful and important concept, it proves Tucker is reading and promoting the thought of the same guy who said this:
>"At a time when anti-white racial and ethnic groups define themselves in explicitly racial terms, only our own unity and identity as a race will be able to meet their challenge. If and when that challenge should triumph and those enemies come to kill us as Robert Mugabe has threatened to do to whites in Zimbabwe, they will do so not because we are 'Americans' or 'Christians' or 'conservatives' or 'liberals,' but because we are white."

I took a nap and literally had an inception dream. Quite possible the scariest thing that has ever happened to me. No matter how many times I woke up I only found myself in another dream, each one more detailed and particular in its dreadfulness than the last, the illusion of reality getting stronger with depth, the methods of my mental torture becoming more precise and sharp. The worlds I found myself in were so fully realized I should hardly believe them to be the invention of my own mind. I used all of my mental willpower to try and break through and force myself wake up, and when I did, I felt so free. I jumped out to my balcony and shouted "I'm free! I'm alive and I'm real! It's finally over!" at very confused neighbors. Then I would start going about my day in this new world. Each town I found myself in had its own architecture and history, and I had built my own life there. Although I've never seen any of them before, they were familiar to me and I was delighted to have escaped the dreams and returned to my simple lives. And then every single one of them was destroyed. Eventually I stopped believing that I could be free and I never got out of bed. I would just open my eyes and focus so much hatred on who or what was deceiving me that it would short-circuit my brain and break reality, not even bothering to participate in the illusion by banging my head against a wall or committing suicide, instead destroying my own consciousness using only my mind and thoughts.
I finally woke up because my dad called my phone. Apparently he randomly felt the need to check and see how I was doing or if I was okay. I think if he hadn't called I wouldn't have ever woken up, my brain would be a scrambled egg. I was sweating so hard that my room will stink for days and my mouth was covered in foamy saliva, so I was probably having some kind of self-induced seizure.

There seems to be a creative urge that is inherent to the universe - an "aliveness," the urge to explore itself, to create with itself, to become other than what it is. Life and consciousness seems to be an extension of this natural aconscious creativity. It's difficult to define or put into words, it can only be felt in pictures like this, in the grandeur of the forest, desert, mountains, or in the clouds.

Religions do it no justice at all, nor does materialism, nor the lame postulate that "all is mind." It's massive interconnectivity and co-creativity, perhaps impossible to define, as any definition turns it into a static object, robbing it of what it truly is.

>"emotional intelligence"?
>>20522938

I agree that this is a made-up term. People seem to use it as a stand-in for the word empathy (em+pathos); which is more of a thing to overcome than anything else - at least in the case of perceptive people who aren't mentally retarded.

>particularly their ability to sense and respond to vulnerabilities and desires in others, that they managed to exploit for professional gain
this is sometimes accurate, but your examples are pretty off.

>Is the way with people not aptly described by this bullshit term "emotional intelligence"?
Not really, no.

Harlan Ellison seems to have described this process the best in 'run for the stars' when he's describing how the drug addict protagonist gets by on pity and other people letting him get away with things they ought know better than to let him get away with.

As a strategy this renders the persons life a trainwreck and it doesn't take any intelligence to do this, it's almost baseline to a certain extent; the starving person stealing food, etc.

Don't get me wrong, you'll find examples in politicans and con-artists from time to time who exploit the same process, but they don't last in the public eye for very long. You're more likely to find examples in the day-to-day world.

Whereas 'Empathy' is not the process they use but rather the process whereby other people sigh and give them the dollar they're begging for; "pathos" meaning suffering, "em+pathy" meaning to involuntary feel or suffer on behalf of others, often to ones own detriment. Different, of course, from conscience.

so,
>Is the way with people not aptly described by this bullshit term "emotional intelligence"?
no.

I don't understand how? I think all the men I mentioned are excellent examples of men who had extraordinary abilities to sense and respond to vulnerabilities and desires in others. What is "off" in what way?
>when he's describing how the drug addict protagonist gets by on pity and other people letting him get away with things they ought know better than to let him get away with.
I mentioned a serial-entrepreneur billionaire, a secretary of state, and a U.S. President - each of whom is held in a certain high regard for their marketing, negotiating, and general power-brokering respectively. Not a lowly drug addict who is trying to survive.
> from time to time who exploit the same process, but they don't last in the public eye for very long. You're more likely to find examples in the day-to-day world.
Except I have you three extreme examples of longevity, they are clearly examples of "emotional intelligence" in that they intelligently exploited emotion, as opposed to a drug addict who doesn't do so intelligently... if they exploit emotion at all but just steal, hence why they are a trainwreck.
Does that make sense?
And then you have standup comedians, these are people who make a career out of manipulating people's emotions, often through very carefully crafted and constructed routines. And people like Mitch Hedberg or even Lee Mack don't fit the typical idea of a 'charismatic' showman. Yet they have made extensive careers by intelligent exploitation of emotion.

>sense and respond to vulnerabilities and desires in others. What is "off" in what way?
steve jobs and henry kissinger as examples of sociopaths exploiting other peoples emotional blind-spots lol

I mean, Kissinger was a diplomat, Johnson was a basic politician, Jobs was one of the first and best hand-held technology manufacturers. Their individual careers don't begin and end with this kind of 'emotional blackmail' that you're positing as a positive.

> they are clearly examples of "emotional intelligence" in that they intelligently exploited emotion
You didn't read what I said. I already made this case about empathy as emotional intelligence.

>as opposed to a drug addict who doesn't do so intelligently
well the premise is a one off line, when you use it on one person you can't use it on them again; the trainwreck comes from accumulating so many angry people who want to hurt you for your action towards them - or who just don't view you positively.

I mean, the premise of a false rape accusation and the iraq war lie doesn't differ in its function; it's an exploit of the innocence of the listener (pathos, empathy) and get their consent to believe you - because they pity you, but they figure it out eventually if it was a lie, then your reputation is ruined.

I just don't see how this applies to Jobs or Kissinger (or Johnson, who I don't recall being particularly interesting).

>> No.20523782

would you say that it would take any particularly intelligence to at this moment fall from your chair and begin to scream until somebody came running, to put on a show for them, to invoke their pity and positive attention? This is something a baby or a toddler has already mastered, is my point.

>I already made this case about empathy as emotional intelligence.
I don't know what your case was. I think I was thrown off by your etymology. "Pathos" means "affection" as it "affect", in contrast to Poesis which means "to make" and could be likened as "effect". What does the etymology have to do with "emotional intelligence". Inanimate objects can suffer affection by efficient agents, but they do not have what we would call "empathy" because they do not have emotions. So why do you stress "em-pathos"?
The modern sense actually seems to have more in common with the term "emotional intelligence" than the ancient.
>Johnson was a basic politician,
He was President of the United States and therefore by no definition of the phrase a "basic politician". There's been only 45 of those. Bu there have been at least 11,000 former members of the house of representatives. That puts him in at least the top 0.41% of American Politicians, except this excludes Senators, and State and Country representatives. There is nothing basic about him, in statistics, in his place in American history, nor about his idiosyncrasies.
>emotional blackmail
I reject that term because I never used it: for example, there's no emotional blackmail being used by standup comedians. However there is arguably intelligent exploitation of emotion. And it's not a thuggish brutish version
s a one off line, when you use it on one person you can't use it on them again; the trainwreck comes from accumulating so many angry people who want to hurt you for your action towards them - or who just don't view you positively.
Which indicates that there is a intelligent variant...
>it's an exploit of the innocence of the listener (pathos, empathy) and get their consent to believe you - because they pity you, but they figure it out eventually if it was a lie, then your reputation is ruined.
And what about standup comedians who do not deceive or exploit the innocence of audiences?
Aren't Jobs, Kissinger, Johnson, Hedberg, and Mack all peopel who got where they are not through brutishly exploiting emotional blindspots or emotional blackmail, but through recognizing the vulnerabilities and desires of wide swathes of people and got them to acquiesce to their desires by skillful application?

i already made this case two posts ago

> Inanimate objects
>but they do not have what we would call "empathy" because they do not have emotions. So why do you stress "em-pathos"?
i have no idea where you got 'inanimate objects' from.

There seems to be a problem in your reading comprehension and I.. wonder if I should continue..

>what does "emotional intelligence" (have to do with) empathy
I would think this would have already been obvious to you; that was the foundation of the case which I went onto make to expound upon pathos as being the frame of mind of a person who would be able to be emotionally manipulated by the (drug addict example by Harlan Ellison).

>The modern sense actually seems to have more in common with the term "emotional intelligence" than the ancient.
Hm. Well I know many people abuse the word and cocnept and portray it as something sunnier, but it's not; it's 'passion' in the sense of hysteria, if that makes sense; and anyway is the proper use of the word, as demonstrated in:
pathetic (to be) (moved by pathos)
empathy (to be) (suffering)
in english language, modern psych. and old world philosophy.

the misnomer is probably more evidence in the word 'pathetic', whereas the misnomer is highlighted in the differing meanings from the common misconception of "empathy" as "emotional intelligence" - and the root of 'pathos' in that misconception relays the cognitive and social forms.

so,
>em+pathos, emotional intelligence
that should've been obvious two posts ago

>Which indicates that there is a intelligent variant...
I really disagree; I mentioned in the next post that this precise exploit is something an actual baby does; so it can be said not to require intelligence from the exploiter but relies entirely upon an observer feeling excessive pity for their apparent suffering and giving them sympathy.

OH that's another pathos word i forgot:
sympathy.

>And what about standup comedians who do not deceive or exploit the innocence of audiences?
I don't recall this of any stand-up comedians or comedy that I've read or watched; if anything the joke is usually 'on' the innocence of persons not in the room (e.g. XYZ is so stupid), with the audience, who already know it, are elated to hear their own thoughts spoken aloud.

urgh the way i phrased that, i feel so clinical

>Aren't Jobs, Kissinger, Johnson, Hedberg, and Mack all peopel who got where they are not through brutishly exploiting emotional blindspots or emotional blackmail, but through recognizing the vulnerabilities and desires of wide swathes of people and got them to acquiesce to their desires by skillful application?

I wouldn't mind honestly, but she never cared until now. So I'm trying to become financially independent ASAP because of this, but I still have to ask her for a few things here and there because I just don't have the resources to be free yet. But whenever I ask her for something, she absolutely loathes it now, which makes it really hard to do anything even if it's for the direct purpose of becoming more independent.

She's changed so quickly in the past few months that it's kind of depressing. Almost everything with her now has this attitude of, "I really don't want you living here anymore." Even when I said I needed internet to do my job from home, she got frustrated with me. But we were fine just last year, and I haven't changed besides just getting a little older. It's kinda sad. Why do people say that you can't judge a book by its cover?
If an author creates a cover that is aesthetically distasteful it can make me less inclined to read it because if his taste in visual aesthetics is bad then I can reasonably infer that his writing has a likelihood of being bad too.

They kind of do boxing/wrestling moves to start fights with eachother. They use their short legs to keep the opponent in place, like boxers do, except, unlike boxers, the point of the upper leg punching and grappling is to get the opponent into the right position to slash their innards out with their lower longer and more powerful legs.

There are poor crack and heroine addicts living in ugly low class apartment blocks who are unironically more creative, soulful and capable than some of the people who are shaping our world. I really wish we could measure things right and get a more totalitarian world in which we protect people from terrible fates and measure and elect them the right way. Such an inefficient shithole.

Female anus too close to the vagina

Hi,

I've been with a few women in my life and one thing I've noticed is that the female anus is incredibly close to the vagina, in fact they're barely an inch apart.

I'm not sure about other guys - but doesn't this disturb you? It feels like a design flaw in women actually -- like they're supposed to be so feminine and beautiful yet this ghastly little oversight is ruining everything.

Somehow it feels to me that women should be more aware of this flaw and it should affect their confidence. Whenever I see a so-called beautiful woman walking down the street so care-free thinking she's all that I just remember her anus is only 1 inch away from her pussy and laugh her into oblivion.

Women: please accept that they're too close together, let it negatively affect your confidence and so make yourselves more readily available sexually as a result. After all, we're having to sleep with a creature whose ANUS is only 1 inch away from the vagina --- you should not make this difficult. It's unappetizing enough as it is. We're doing you a favour.

Men: do not let women forget this flaw, and do not forgive them for it. Remind them of it constantly less they get inflated egos and think they're all that

They're just too close together, sorry, but its true.

Can you help me find this old book cover of a vintage Pinocchio book?
so, this is the first time i have ever used 4chan and i am so lost lol, like where am i ( ,:
but anyways
im here because i have truly no idea where to look or who I should ask for help. I have been looking for a book cover of an old fashioned Pinocchio book (with all the gruesome little details that they left out in the popular Disney movie)
so where did i even get this book from?
my mom used to have a friend that was about to throw away some old second hand books that she used for her kids as bedtime stories and she told us that we were allowed to pick one. so i don’t know if it was me or my sister that chose Pinocchio but the book cover looked super depressing and I remember that it startled me a little.
(this is from my memory) it had a dark blue background colour and Pinocchio was on a very sad looking donkey with yellow boots on that looked like it was about to cry or something, it was pictured relatively big and there was nothing else on it. I don’t remember much about how pinoccio himself appeared but I can tell you that he was not cute. inside of the book you also had some very weird depictions of Pinocchio being tied like a dog near the sea and famous part where he was hanged and stuff but i am more focused on finding this book cover
the fact that i cant find it anywhere online is so irritating to me, like what are the chances that we had a copy that can not be found anywhere! if anyone has any advice on where I could possibly find it would love to here it.

>ignores everything i said
I'm taking this as a good thing, I needed to realize this and move on. I guess I haven't been able to face the alternative, that aside from relying on these people for a connection, I will be alone. On some level I've known this all along, known that just because being alone is terrible, that doesn't mean there's any hope of breaking through to them and making them respect me. Which means I already know what I'm doing is hopeless and I do it anyway because the alternative is even worse.

Since becoming conscious of this I feel differently though. I would rather keep my self-respect, and stop building up resentment and getting angry periodically. They don't even understand the anger, so what's the point of it? That's the spiral of madness I have been in. I can't even get mad enough that they care enough to understand why I'm mad. I need to just be okay with being lonely for a while. Maybe now that I have reoriented myself I will meet more compatible people.

Idk. It depends on the hardship really. Most criminals are criminals because they didn't have a father, or got molested, or grew up in a horrible environment so that it basically ruined them. Yet it feels like a lot of people benefit from going through hard times in the long run.

A few days ago on /fit/ I read that guys who are tall are slightly more like women since they get more of life handed to them, whereas if a short guy succeeds in life he probably earned all of it. And it got me thinking about if this is really true at all. I remembered that one manlet who went viral for having a meltdown in a Bagel Boss about his height, and later had a heart attack and I think he got paralyzed. It seems like being short kinda ruined him. But maybe if he wasn't defeated by his height, if he didn't give into the defeatist thoughts and surrender to how unfair life is, he could have really become wiser and maybe even a great guy.

So what does this mean? I think it means truly great men can only be created from hardship, but only when you overcome it. This is why trust fund babies and art hoes are so boring and sterile, while a lot of poor people are also bad (because they succumb to drugs and vice). But if you have someone who sinks that low and climbs back out, odds are they're a good person.

Thanks bro. I like your name.

One of the big hurdles I had to overcome to have this realization was that I have a lot of built up resentment and coping mechanisms for dealing with shitty friends. When I handled their shittiness in shitty ways, my first instinct was always to play devil's advocate for them while blaming my own shittiness. It's difficult to come to the conclusion that, yes, you were being resentful and passive aggressive, which is bad, but the person provoking you was also actually kind of a piece of shit too. If I were just a little more mentally ill or retarded I don't think I could have gotten the clarity to stop the pendulum swinging from one extreme to the other.

the lion stage I suppose. I think I finally stepped into it totally 6 months ago after an ordeal with a (wealthy) girl and since I've seen a huge shift in my personality. in the past I would spend time coping about what I fundamentally wanted from someone and would hesitate somewhat out of a 'narcissism' but mostly out of a guilt of extracting/using them. now those thoughts never even enter and when they do they're met by an absolute emotional coldness. the truth is I was even more sensitive than this when I was younger and would at times berate myself for being smarter, more interesting and the center of attention despite being fucking poor and offered nothing past entertainment. Anyway it was quite late for me to get to this stage (24) but I do think the sensitivity which lead me down this route of inquiry into morality and power that will prove useful. I tried to use philosophy and science to understand why I always felt so guilty and finally a confrontation with a women I loved dearly broke those feelings and left me only with knowledge. in a play, you see a number of characters caught in a dramatic situation. what happens next? they have a scene. from the scene comes action, somebody fires a revolver. and then everything is changed.

my life is different.

They probably do make good audiobooks, they're all very short except one or two.

What's on my mind? The burden of sheer superiority. My mind, from the antique realm of the Caucasus, is proof that history is not written by mind nor will but the sheer retard frenzy of cattle. Life or death, it doesn't matter. Worth is as much a lie as Santa Claus.

I have an small assignment to write.
Five pages on either of two conflicts : the conflict in Yemen or the conflict in Venezuela. Both of them don't interest me and I can't decide which to pick. I guess I'll take Yemen because it seems a bit more straightforwards and therefore easy to write.

ya how can i make an anonymous twitter? it doesn't have to be anonymous from the cia or whatever, i'm not using it to troll, i just don't want people from work or stalkery types seeing my art/photos. i want to buy one of those iphone lens attachments so i can take better photos, but still be able to maintain the spontaneity of phone photos.

yeah i think yemen the easiest one to dial in. also, you can point out how the united states and europe are still buying oil from saudi arabia despite that they have killed for more civilians in yemen than russia has or will or in ukraine.

The release of death. I mean its square from your perspective if one day there is no more you to remember the transgressions or to be transgressed upon.

Its if there's some sort of continuation that things get messy. Unfortunately its unknowable. Funny part is we keep throwing new people into this dilemma. Both sides of the argument are sure about one thing, some sort of justice in death, like nature is somehow obligated to let you off the hook.

Its all pretty funny.

I got my first real job working remote for $25/hour doing virtually nothing. Comparing this to when I was 18 busting my ass for 8 hours a day as a cashier for $7 an hour with 30 minute breaks is surreal
