Classical music is certainly superior to pop; and this is not meant to be a provocative statement, it is rather just an objective observation that seems rather obvious to me.

Who would you rather entrust yourself to when you are ill? - a mature & fully trained doctor, or a spotty self-taught quack, full of mumbo jumbo?
Who would you rather represent you in a court case? - an accomplished lawyer, or or an inexperienced & unqualified hack?
Unfortunately, most pop music is made by people who are illiterate when it comes to music. They often use amplification and studio tricks to hide their lack of technique, and rely mostly on 'image'. This because they know that their audience is even more musically backward than themselves!

On the other hand, Classical musicians train properly from an early age. They utilise correct techniques on natural instruments and study at the very least two instruments. They have to know how to read & write music, to know about harmony and compostion, and to develop their ear with aural training techniques.
Also they play a whole range of Clasical music coming down to us from the last 1,000 years. Music which evolved and developed by composers standing upon the shoulders of giants.
Compare this long and evolving Tradition with the constant crazes and fazes of fashion in pop!

Classical composers are true artists to rank alongside the great painters and sculptors of Western Tradition. They are alongside great thinkers too - a Beethoven can stand alongside a Schopenhauer, for example.

Pop musicians are mere fashion icons - as disposable and trashy as the whole of pop culture is.

Mozart can expand your intellect - Metallica will trash it.

Matthew's Passion is great, especially the introduction movement. Mass in B Minor is good too, but it drags on too much for me. Highlights there are Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, and Agnus Dei.
ALL of his organ works are phenomenal. Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor stands out to me as his crowning piece. For piano, I love the Italian Concerto.
