1. Why does Doc go to Adrian Prussia's office in chapter 18?

At this point he saw Adrian's file so what could he possibly want to know? There's no reason as far as I can tell to want to talk to Puck Beaverton at this point. And when he does? There's, like, nothing to ask? But we get an infodump of information anyway.

2. Why does Shasta say, more or less, What postcard? But at the end asks if Doc got her postcard?

Tried answering the first question yesterday, still not entirely sure. But the postcard thing was like some out of body experience thing like when doc saw her on the boat right? Like she was testing him?

Anyways dude this is one of the less intertwined Pynchon novels. Wouldn’t be surprised if there was no real answer

Stupid book. Even worse movie.

>Tried answering the first question yesterday, Yeah I saw that. Did you, like, look at the book and come up with anything?

The postcard was real. It had the reference to the Ouija board day that only Doc, Shasta n Sortilège would have known about.

Doc saw Shasta on the boat when he was on the acid trip.

>Wouldn’t be surprised if there was no real answer
I'd expect some coherence for question 1. Maybe 2 was meant to disorient, esp since Doc isn't sure if the encounter with Shasta at the bar (where she doesn't know about the postcard)... he's not sure if that actually happened or if it was her...

Been a good while since I read it but, he can not really use the information from the file in any real way beyond his own curiosity/for leads, his stoner way is to just go with the flow and see where things lead, he feels sorry for Bigfoot, and I think it is explicitly said that there is something bothering Doc about it all but he can not figure out what that is, he wants to know what that is.

Right, which is why I'm confused. He can't use the information about Prussia, he knows the guy has a license to kill... was Puck MIA? No. I have no idea why he'd venture in there. Shasta and Mickey are back. AP Finance doesn't have anything to do with Coy. He was what? Going to ask Adrian who ordered him to kill Indelicato? That doesn't make any sense.

But there is that loose end concerning Bigfoot, Doc is starting to empathize and because of the sort of person he is, he has to act on that; which is exactly what Bigfoot is counting on. He has a personal interest as well, Doc gets like half a dozen different cases all which end up pointing to the same thing and also raises the question if he is being used by someone since what are the chances of all those cases leading to the same spot?

The Bigfoot loose end is tied up as far Doc knows befo

I guess Adrian is tied in with the Golden Fang what with the photo of him with the counterfeit money. Idk, those two Qs are the only things that don't make sense to me.

There is an entirely new lose end brought up by what he finds in the file, he can not believe it is all just coincedence, he needs to find out partly for himself and partly out of his weird misplaced loyalty towards Bigfoot. And after he kills Prussia and Puck we find out it was not all a pile of coincidence, Bigfoot manipulated him into killing them.

How Prussia actually ties into everything. You do realize that Bigfoot had been feeding him misinformation?

Not really. What was the misinfo? I just remember Bigfoot warning him off getting involved.

This is why Bigfoot sets up Doc at the end, he is tying up his loose ends and wants The Golden Fang to deal with Doc just as he got Doc to deal with Prussia. Somewhere around his questioning of Doc regarding Charlock's death Bigfoot realizes that there is enough overlap onto Prussia that he can probably get Doc and Prussia together and have it turn out not so well. Much of the interaction between Doc and Bigfoot between these two events is Bigfoot influencing Doc in various ways to make this happen. This is why Doc goes to The Golden Fang about the drugs, he realized what Bigfoot has done and that Bigfoot would get the word out regarding Doc having ripped off their drugs. Half of Bigfoot's plan works, the failure of the second half is not a huge issue, Doc now knows the lengths Bigfoot will go too and that it would be suicide to do anything but forget it all, and besides, it worked out reasonably well in the end.

It has been far too long since I read it to really go into detail, you will need to provide more detail yourself to help refresh my memory if you want that. Wasn't it Bigfoot himself who brings Prussia into it all? Memory might being failing there but I think it was.
