is knowledge enough to succeed in academia? I'm bad at socializing.

Sucking cocks is the only way to succeed. Post those lips, anon, then we'll see if you're cut out for academia.

No, it is not. You either have connections or you're better off working on other fields. Even if you had great and new knowledge, to communicate it you'd need connections.

You might need to identify as non-binary or as a trans woman if you aren’t black or Latino

Grad school is the most oversocialized, oversocializing place ever. You are surrounded by adderall hipsters who don't give a shit about the subjects they study and have no thoughts of their own, but went to grad school because they need something to do that wouldn't embarrass the family for 5+ years, and "getting coffee" and having casual sex in a college town until they're 30 is an acceptable compromise since they have no other skills. They got enough A's and B+'s in undergrad (with help from adderall) to get into generic grad school with a generic thesis topic, but they don't know anything, they don't care about anything. Well, they might care about twitter social justice shit. And going to parties and "getting coffee" during weekday afternoons every other day for 8 years, where they commiserate about the bare minimum work they have to do in grad school. They also like going on vacation at the end of every semester.

If you don't positively thrive in this environment you will become isolated and slowly but surely opportunities will dry up, because, as you will come to realize, all the good opportunities are gotten through nepotism and word of mouth.

You should still go if you want to, but don't expect your autism to carry you on its own. You will have to learn to survive in this shit environment.
