Self-help books make you feel good while you're reading them and then have you coming back for more of the same stuff so you delay putting any ideas or suggestions presented in them in action by another day.
Philosophy books, on the other hand, try to fuck with your mind and tell you that you're dumb and don't really know whatever you thought you knew.
The experience of reading self-help books is hedonistic whereas that of reading philosophy books is masochistic.

Top-tier self-help books will help you improve your life by imparting useful life skills in an effective way. Top-tier works of philosophy will make you miserable and intolerable to others.
