You don't write and stop larping.

I also enjoyed writing outside and everywhere else. So I abandoned the laptop completely, wrote a 74k novel by hand in a journal. Only once it was finished did I type it, which was a great first edit opportunity.

So my advice: don't buy a laptop. Buy a nice journal(I went leather bound), a comfortable pen, and then carry it with you. Can start anywhere without having to wait for the lappy to start, don't need to worry about battery life, or theft, or file corruption. Get to practise your writing (I did cursive, and am now quite adept at it), and its been proven that using your hands to draw or write, as opposed to small clicks and typing, activates creative centers in the brain.

That sounds nice to write ideas or short segments but a pain to write longer things.

I agree with this, but I'm less precious of the notebook. Cheap and abundant college rule note books are what I use.

The problem is that "cheap laptops" have gotchas that make them suck, like being forced to use specific apps and always be online.
Buy a used MacBook Air or Lenovo.
Or just walk down the street and buy some notebooks at the grocery store.

Again, I wrote 25 chapters by hand. It's easier than you think to write abundantly. It's just a skill that mankind is forgetting.

Trust me, after a few pages you'll be in the swing of it, and it's honestly the best way to write.

What’s your Novel about? Are there any plans on getting it published, or is it a personal project for you?

See? Typing on a screen will never give you this type of satisfaction.

It's a fantasy novel, about a homeless man who starts a cult in a deeply religious society. Promising everyone everything, it basically starts taking over, and the story follows both cultists and agents of the state as they try to bring about or prevent the cult's goals.

I suck at writing query letters, however, so I'm taking a break from querying as I get some help from the QueryShark. So, long story short, yes, trying to get published.

Write longhand instead. If you must use a laptop then get a cheap used ThinkPad off of eBay, install a Linux distribution, and learn vim or emacs alongside pandoc and markdown. Or just use Windows and whatever program you want.

You’ve got beautiful handwriting, Anon. It sounds very interesting, and I’d love to read it once it’s published. Don’t know the title, so I’ll have to be on the lookout in the future for stories with this premise.

They're about 30 Canuck dollars for a good sized one of 300 pages or so. But outside of Canada it's probably cheaper.

I started writing on my phone. I have an iphone and downloaded a plain text editor on there because the Notes app can be slow sometimes especially with a big file. Plus you can introduce a folder structure that way.

Yes, it's slower than typing on a keyboard but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's still faster than handwriting, it's less shit to carry than a leatherbound notebook (b/c you'd have your phone anyway), and there's virtually no way to lose your work.

Get a Thinkpad X61, remove the wifi module, install Arch Linux (or another distro without a DE), and have it setup to launch whatever program you use to write in upon boot.
No distractions.
4:3 aspect ratio.
Excellent keyboard.
What more could you want?
