Imagine thinking Christ's church wasn't subverted into an instrument of social control by the monolithic empire that enabled His execution and that the word of His apostles wasn't heavily curated and edited to support a succession of worldly kingdoms

Agreed, but it seems they diverted as much attention as possible away from Scripture and towards "saints" and "Fathers", even to the point of insisting Scripture be put into only one language which increasingly few could speak/read. Nonetheless, I suspect that whole affair wound up being a case of Romans 8:28, because it did preserve the *seeds* for the ekklesia until they could replant and grow in more fertile soils. The LORD God Almighty is a potter, farmer, and fisher.

>Judges 19:22-29. While they were enjoying themselves, some of the wicked men of the city surrounded the house. Pounding on the door, they shouted to the old man who owned the house, “Bring out the man who came to your house so we can have sex with him. The owner of the house went outside and said to them, “No, my friends, don’t be so vile. Since this man is my guest, don’t do this outrageous thing. Look, here is my virgin daughter, and his concubine. I will bring them out to you now, and you can use them and do to them whatever you wish. But as for this man, don’t do such an outrageous thing.” But the men would not listen to him. So the man took his concubine and sent her outside to them, and they raped her and abused her throughout the night, and at dawn they let her go. At daybreak the woman went back to the house where her master was staying, fell down at the door and lay there until daylight. When her master got up in the morning and opened the door of the house and stepped out to continue on his way, there lay his concubine, fallen in the doorway of the house, with her hands on the threshold. He said to her, “Get up; let’s go.” But there was no answer. Then the man put her on his donkey and set out for home. When he reached home, he took a knife and cut up his concubine, limb by limb, into twelve parts and sent them into all the areas of Israel

Yes. Most of Judges is a highlight of the jews turning away from God and the lawless savagery they engaged in because of this.

Sounds very familiar. The more disillusioned with society I become the more I can understand why Ecclesiastes is so often quoted.

So here i am reading Philokalia, sayings of orthodox monks.
One of the sayings goes like this:
A master is under no obligation to reward his slaves.; on the other hand those who do not serve him well are not given their freedom
Lets not kid ourselves, metaphor is that God is master and we are slaves, cause there are similar parables in gospel and in this book also. Now, i was under the impression that a loving God would never consider relationship to his creatures that he loves like this, but it seems to be that i have been mistaken. Can someone please explain this saying

holy shit the plagues were real. I am reading about the ipuwer papyrus and it's entries

@schizoposter 'ipuwer papyrus'

Independent verification the 10 plagues were real.

IPUWER-
2:5-6 Plague is throughout the land. Blood is everywhere.
2:10 The river is blood.
2:10 Men shrink from tasting – human beings, and thirst after water
2:10 Forsooth, gates, columns and walls are consumed by fire.
5:5 All animals, their hearts weep. Cattle moan…
9:11 The land is without light.
4:3 (5:6) Forsooth, the children of princes are dashed against the walls.
6:12 Forsooth, the children of princes are cast out in the streets.
3:14 It is groaning throughout the land, mingled with lamentations.
7:1 Behold, the fire has mounted up on high. Its burning goes forth against the enemies of the land.

It's a metaphor for God's relationship to us. God owes us nothing, and has no obligation to free us from the burden of our sins, which we ourselves have put on; nevertheless those who strive to do His will may find freedom in Him.

I recommend that all Christian brethren immediately hide any threads you come across which feature images with women of a sexual nature, faggots, femboys, and troons. The temptations from the women should be shut down without wasting even a second, and the rest are to save yourself from the disgust.

>When he reached home, he took a knife and cut up his concubine, limb by limb, into twelve parts and sent them into all the areas of Israel

This is the worst part of the story for me. Like... she's already been raped/tortured by a mob... and then the man cuts her limbs off (presumably while she is still alive) before cutting her into pieces. And people say that Sodom and Gomorrah was bad?

On the one hand there is the Jesus that we hear about from the pulpit. On the other hand there is the Jesus who actually appears in the pages of the gospels. They aren't the same at all. The first is said to be warm, compassionate, slow to anger, and constantly reminding people to love their neighbor. The second is a traveling exorcist who tells (deliberately) confusing stories and is demanding, quick to anger, and constantly talking about how the Son of Man will arrive at any moment. This Jesus also tells people to hate their families (Luke 14:26).

Knowing this makes me both sad and upset, and all I did was read the Bible. I read the gospels. And to my utter horror I realized that the gospels are ultimately responsible for the Holocaust. Read Matthew 23 and John 8 if you don't believe me. Or Matthew 27.

If you properly consider his whole 'disregard your family and yourself before picking up the cross' in context instead of emotionally reacting without thinking, then it makes a lot of sense.
He says that to become his disciple, it is prerequisite that one gives up care for his family and his own life. He does not say to become a Christian, but to become one of his disciples. This is while he still lived, and according to the Gospels foresaw his own demise. Taking that into account, he is warning those interested in becoming one of his disciples that to do so they will need to be prepared to cut family ties and give up their own life as there are dangerous persecutions coming in the near future.
The family stuff falls into place in the context that at that time he is speaking to the people of Judea, most of whom ended up rejecting his message. He is saying to those Jews that gathered to follow him, 'this will divide you from your families, you cannot become my disciple unless you accept that'.

But why would an infinitely loving God put forth an idea that he owes us nothing? Seems like something toxic parents say to kids. Then why did he create us? He created us just to say that he owes us nothing, making our existence intolerable?
